Ugandan Public Alerted to Beware of Fraudulent Financial Literacy Tenders

A poster has been circulating on social media from the website (https://www.tendersontime.com/uganda-tenders/) about registration for a Financial Literacy and Trainings Tender by National Procurement Plan. However, there is no entity or agency known as the “National Procurement Plan” in Uganda but an entity known as “Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority” (PPDA).

How the Scam Works

The Scammers share a poster has a link to the website where the tender details and documents can be got. However, when users get to the website and click on the link, they are asked to register first.

On registration users are requested to provide their names, email address, phone number, and country. Once these details are provided, users are informed that registration is complete and they will be contacted within 24 hours for more details.

However on completion, no tender documents are provided as the download option disappears after one provides personal information. This is characteristic of phishing scams in which an individual’s details are accessed using false promises as bait.

How to Safeguard Yourself

– Always verify tender opportunities on the official Uganda Government websites or other authorized channels

– Be cautious of spontaneous emails or calls

– Never share personal information or send money to unconfirmed sources
