A new phishing scam is targeting MTN Uganda customers, claiming to offer free 50GB data bundles to users with old SIM cards. This fraudulent scheme has been circulating widely on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Here’s how it works and how you can avoid falling victim to it.
How the Scam Works
Scammers send messages containing links that promise free 50GB data bundles to those with SIM cards older than a year. Upon clicking the link, users are directed to a fake MTN website designed to look official.
The site prompts them to fill out a survey asking for personal details such as phone numbers. Once completed, victims are congratulated and told to share the link with others to claim their reward. However, there is no data giveaway only personal information is stolen, which can be used for fraud.
How to Avoid It

- Do Not Click on Suspicious Links: Avoid clicking on any links from unknown sources or unsolicited messages.
